Event




The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is one of the world’s oldest and largest grassroots mobilization campaigns for HIV awareness in the world. Started in 1983, The International AIDS Candlelight memorial takes place every third Sunday in May. The observation is much more than just a memorial and serves as a community mobilization campaign to raise social consciousness about HIV and AIDS.
“Promoting Health and Dignity Together” is the theme of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial 2012. The theme aims to raise awareness around HIV and to promote respect for the human rights of people living with HIV. The theme “Promoting Health and Dignity Together” is inspired by the Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention framework which is a people-centered and human rights based approach to the HIV response.

Taking HIV/AIDS as one of the serious issues and International AIDS Candlelight Memorial a significant day to raise the awareness around HIV, civil societies organisations, human rights groups, lawyers, networks and NGOs are coming together to observe this important day and continue as a year-long campaign for solidarity in  fighting the epidemic.  As a part of the observation, Painting competition for the HIV infected children and a mass rally will be held before the main function. The main observation function will be held on 20th May 2011 at Lamyanba Sanglen, opposite AIR station, Imphal, Manipur, India at 3.00pm
