Ephedrine worth 75 lakhs seized at Imphal airport
IMPHAL,
July 3: A consignment of Ephedrine tablets worth around Rs 75 lakhs with a
total weight of 75 kg was seized this afternoon around 12:30pm from the cargo
of Indian Airlines aircraft, IA-889 coming from the Indira Gandhi International
Airport, New Delhi.
The
seizure was made by a team of the Imphal West police.
According
to eyewitnesses, the consignment containing Actiman tablets containing
pseudo-ephidrine 60 mg were addressed to one Ghanashyam of Imphal.
The
consignment was send by one Amar from Delhi as written on the package,
eyewitnesses told IFP.
The
tablets were packed in three cartoons and came under the consignment no
14241441/3-IML.
Each
cartoon weighed 25 kg and the tablets could be worth around Rs 75 lakh.
The
tablets are not manufactured by any registered drugs and chemical companies.
On the
cover of the tablet, its composition is written as Tripolidine
Hydrochloride-2.5mg which is also not its actual composition.
The whole
tablet contains only Pseudo-ephidrine. Each strip contains ten tablets and has
MRP of Rs 5.90, however a single strip could cost in between Rs 50 to Rs 100 once
it reaches Myanmar.
Even
though the police managed to seize the items, the consignee managed to flee
from the scene before the arrival of the police.
The
police have seized the consignment and filed a formal Seizure memo.
It may be
mentioned, that a similar consignment of banned drugs ‘Mod’s Acti-feel’
comprising of 15 cartoons each (each cartoon containing 7000 strips each of 10
tablets) were seized from the cargos of a Kingfisher flight and Air India
flight on May 8 by state police.
The
consignment had also originated from the Indira Gandhi International Airport,
New Delhi.
