Drugs disposed off
IMPHAL,
Nov 6 : Custom Department officials today disposed off huge a consignment of
contraband Ganja worth Rs 1,44,62,500 and methamphetamine tablets worth Rs
6,00,000 at Ms Dameyenti Brick Field, Waiton Lamkhai in Imphal East district.
The
contraband items were consigned to flames in the presence of DC, SP Custom
department, other officials of the department and media persons.
The huge
consignments of ganja, weighing 2892.5 kg and methamphetamine tablets were
seized from different parts of the State by personnel of the Custom department.
Speaking
at the sideline, Inspector of Disposal, Custom dept said such disposal is made
every four year. He added that the contraband items were seized from the
illegal possession of various smugglers. He added that methamphetamine tablets
are generally smuggled from neighbouring Myanmar and the drug is said to be
used mainly by Afghan based militants and in Latin America.
